Teenagers who won the Man of the Series in Tests

Prithvi Shaw is the first Indian teenager to be awarded as the Man of the Series in the Test series against Windies. It was the first Test series of his international cricket career. He scored 237 runs with an average of 118.5 and highest score of 134 in two games against West Indies.

In this post, let us have a look at the teenagers who won the Man of the Series award in Tests.


#1 Waqar Younis (1990)

Waqar Younis is the first teenager to win a Man of the Series award in Tests. He did it in the third Test series of his career. It was in 1990 when New Zealand toured Pakistan.

In the first Test of the series, his bowling figures in the match were 7/79, which include 4/40 and 3/39 in the first and second innings, respectively. Pakistan won that match by an innings and 43 runs.

In the second Test of the series, his bowling figures in the match were 10/106, which include 3/20 and 7/86 in the first and second innings, respectively. It was his first 10-wicket haul in Tests and he was awarded the Man of the Match. Pakistan won that match by nine wickets.

In the third Test of the series, his bowling figures in the match were 12/130, which include 7/76 and 5/54 in the first and second innings, respectively. It was his second 10-wicket haul in Tests and he was awarded as Man of the Match again. Pakistan won that match by 65 runs. He was jointly awarded as the Man of the Series with Martin Crowe and Shoaib Mohammad.

Burewala Express is the second highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in Tests. He picked up 373 wickets in 87 matches. He was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2013. He was among the Wisden Cricketers of the Year 1992.


#2 Enamul Haque (2005)

Enamul Haque is the first Bangladeshi teenager to win a Man of the Series award in Tests. He did it in the third Test series of his career. It was in 2005 when Zimbabwe toured Bangladesh.

In the first Test of the series, he was wicketless in the first innings but he picked up his first 6-wicket haul in the second innings. He was awarded as Man of the Match. Bangladesh won that match by 226 runs.

In the second Test, his bowling figures in the match were 12/200, which include 7/95 and 5/105 in the first and second innings, respectively. It was his first 10-wicket haul in Tests. However, the match ended with a draw.

#3 Mohammad Amir (2010)

Mohammad Amir is the second Pakistani teenager to win a Man of the Series award in Tests. He did it in the fourth Test series of his career. It was in 2010 when Pakistan toured England.

In the first Test of the series, his bowling figures in the match were 4/76, which include 3/41 and 1/35 in the first and second innings, respectively. Pakistan lost that match by 354 runs.

In the second Test of the series, his bowling figures were 3/88, which include 2/57 and 1/31 in the first and second innings, respectively. England won that match by nine wickets.

In the third Test of the series, he made a great comeback. His bowling figures in the match were 6/101, which include 1/49 and 5/52 in the first and second innings, respectively. He was awarded as Man of the Match for his fifer. Pakistan won that match by four wickets.

In the fourth Test of the series, his figures were 6/84 in the first innings of the match. But, his efforts were not enough as England won by an innings and 225 runs. He was jointly awarded as the Man of the Series with Jonathan Trott.

Mohammad Amir has played 33 Test matches where he picked up 107 wickets. He was banned for playing cricket for 5 years since 2010. His first match after the ban was a T20I match against New Zealand on 15 January 2016 at Auckland.


#4 Mehidy Hasan (2016)

Mehidy Hasan is the second Bangladeshi teenager to win a Man of the Series award in Tests. He did it in the first Test series of his career. It was in 2016 when England toured Bangladesh.

In the first match of the series, his bowling figures in the match were 7/138, which include 6/80 and 1/58 in the first and second innings respectively. But, his efforts were not enough as Bangladesh lost the match by 22 runs.

In the second test of the series, his bowling figures in the match were 12/159, which include 6/82 and 6/77 in the first and second innings respectively. It was his first 10-wicket haul in Tests and was awarded as Man of the Match. Bangladesh won that match by 108 runs. He was awarded as Man of the Series.

Miraz is an emerging all-rounder from Bangladesh. He has picked up 58 wickets and scored 362 runs in 14 Test matches.



#5 Prithvi Shaw (2018)

Prithvi Shaw is the first teenager batsman to win a Man of the Series award in Tests. He did it in the first Test series of his career in the recently concluded games with West Indies..

In the first match of the series, he scored 134 runs which propelled his team to a mammoth total of 649 and was the Player of the Match. India won that match by an innings and 272 runs.

In the second match of the series, Shaw scored 70 runs in the first innings which helped the team to a total of 367. India won that match by ten wickets. He was awarded as Man of the Series.

Shaw is an emerging batsman from India. He is the fifteenth Indian cricketer to score a Test century on debut.
